CURRENT PRIORITIES OF INFORMATION POLICY IN THE ACTIVITY OF THE EUROPEAN UNION

Abstract

The current priorities of European information policy have been formed under the influence of rapid changes associated with the emergence of technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The new reality has put on the agenda the question of using achievements in the field of science and technology to im- prove the system of political governance of the state, develop the information industry and increase the level of competitiveness of Europe, and form a fair society where citizens are guaranteed access to all necessary services through the spread of modern technologies. Since 2015, the European Union has sig- nificantly revised the basic principles of information policy and focused on the creation of the Digital Single Market and ensuring smart sustainable develop- ment. In 2018–2024, a number of strategic documents were adopted, which became the basis for the formation of a new European digital strategy.

The purpose of the article is to study the current priorities of the European infor- mation policy presented in the updated digital strategy of the European Union. The article analyzes the main stages of evolution of the modern information policy strategy within the EU, which is based on the updated digital strategy. The authors analyze the main principles of digital transformation of modern Europe and the priorities of the EU for their implementation. In particular, the article examines the applied areas of the organization's activities aimed at stimulating the development of the information economy and digital soci- ety, developing digital rights and principles, regulating artificial intelligence and data management, creating digital identity, developing digital markets and digital services, introducing the digital euro, stimulating innovation, etc.
